The idea for this blog came as a result of Mat and I visiting the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge for my birthday this year (2023). We are not good at travel, meaning we are not experienced at it and we have to learn how to travel. Isn’t that just crazy? We have to learn how to relax, travel and be on vacation.

None the less we decided to venture out to Jasper Park Lodge for my birthday weekend. While in Jasper, something amazing happened during our vacation in this breathtaking, awe inspiring, majestic natural place in the Rockies. It became abundantly clear why you need to take a vacation and relax. It is so that your mind, soul and body can get centered and connect with your true self. Being calm, quiet and centered with nothing else to do but enjoy each other and the beautiful, out of this world views you are able to receive information or ideas that you normally wouldn’t even think of.

During the course of our weekend, we came across the history of the Jasper Park Lodge. It was originally built by Canadian National Railway and then was sold to it’s competitor Canadian Pacific Railways which then was transferred to it’s Canadian Pacific Hotels division which then changed it’s name to Fairmont Hotels and Resorts. Now to be known as ‘Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge’.

There is nothing more Canadian than the railway system in the Rockies built by CN and CP Rail. You really experience what it means to be not only a Canadian but an Albertan Canadian. So much so that Albertans are honoured at the Fairmont JPL by giving a 30% Alberta resident discount. We can vacation right here is our own beautiful province and get a substantial discount. The only requirement is that you have to have proof of living in an Alberta address. How great is that? We definitely will support our local vacation sites, especially one that is world renowned like Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge.

In the lower level of the Fairmont JPL you will find pictures and can read about the history of this hotel. Having time to do nothing but be in the moment and learn about where are ang goggling the Fairmont hotel, as I was exploring this site, I realized there are 72 Fairmont locations around the world and Canada is host to 20. Mat and I were discussing this hotel chain, and we talked about how wonderful it would be to visit all the Fairmont hotels. So we got this brilliant idea and decided in January every year we would visit at least on Fairmont location in Canada.

Upon doing so I thought it would be a great idea to capture all our travel and visits of these amazing hotels with so much Canadian History attached to them on a ‘travel blog’. As I begin to write this story, my first travel blog post, I realized there was so much more I wanted to write about than just travel.

“Life is a journey…not a destination enjoy Jasper!” is a quote that I read on the a park bench next to Jasper the Bear in downtown Jasper sponsored by Dowling Family.
